Why people drive past the big stores
Most pet food gets chosen by the design on the bag.
Nobody in the aisle of a warehouse club can tell you why a senior labrador with a sensitive stomach does badly on the food that suits your neighbour's puppy. We carefully evaluate each and every product we sell, and our staff are thoroughly trained and tested in animal nutrition, so the conversation starts with your animal instead of with what is on promotion.
- Tell us the breed, the age and what has been going wrong.
- We narrow it to two or three formulas and say why.
- If we do not stock your brand, we special order it.

The Larchmont team. The name badges are not decoration; ask them anything about the wall behind them.
So the shelf is edited before you reach it
Every brand here earned its space on the wall.
Dog, cat, frozen and alternative diets, grouped the way a person shops rather than the way a distributor invoices. Inventory varies by store, so call ahead to confirm your exact formula before you drive over.

And the answer to where do I buy it is a street
Seven shops, six pet washes, one phone call each.
Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm · Saturday 9am to 6pm · Sunday 10am to 6pm. Every store below answers its own phone during those hours, and every one of them will put a bag behind the counter with your name on it.
Pet washes run thirty minutes per customer and must finish thirty minutes before closing. Book by calling the store, or walk in and take a bay if one is free. Full hours and pet wash rules.

The winking dog on the original board. He is still on the sign outside every store.
Because the habit started a long way back
Two servicemen, a British puppy, and 1945.
Pet Pantry began in 1945 with two World War II Army Air Forces servicemen, Mort Davis and Jac Cohen, who became friends over a British puppy Davis adopted while stationed in England and then had transferred home. Davis died in the late sixties. Cohen carried the business on until 1995, when Barry Jacobson and his sons Adam and Ari bought it and turned the old warehouse into a shop. Rye followed in 2006, Larchmont in 2010, New Canaan and Wilton in late 2012, then Riverside and Scarsdale, and the seventh store on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield in the summer of 2018.
The K9 Feeding Project
Working with our pet food partners, we provide food to local police K9 units and the officers charged with their care, free of charge.
Donatable Dollars
Every sale item bought from a participating brand sends a contribution to local nonprofits. As of March 2024 it has raised over $150,000.
We hold weekly in-store dog and cat adoptions with Adopt-A-Dog, Cat Assistance, Greyhound Rescue, The Good Dog Foundation, Stray's and Others and Pet Rescue, and we support local schools, charities, police, fire and ambulance services by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of money, goods, and services.
So bring the dog in with you.
A free Pet One Club card at the till, member pricing on hundreds of monthly specials, and someone behind the counter who remembers what you bought last time. We look forward to serving the needs of you and your pets.
Before you drive over
The five things people call and ask.
Which stores have a pet wash station?+
Six of the seven: Riverside, New Canaan, Wilton and Fairfield in Connecticut, and Rye and Scarsdale in New York. Larchmont is the one without. Washes are booked by calling the store ahead, or taken as a walk-in first come first served if a bay is free.
How long do I get in the pet wash?+
Thirty minutes per customer, so the bay can be cleaned thoroughly between clients, and the last wash has to finish thirty minutes before the store closes. Speak with a PPW team member to reserve your wash time.
What if you do not carry my dog's formula?+
Inventory varies from store to store, so call the shop nearest you to confirm your exact formula before you drive over. If we do not carry the product you are looking for, we will be happy to special order it for you.
What is the Pet One Club rewards card?+
It is free, and you sign up at the till in any store. It gets you member pricing on hundreds of monthly specials, automatic entry into Brand Rewards so purchases earn reward dollars back within that brand family, first notice of member-only sales and events, hassle free returns because we can retrieve and reprint your receipt, and access to your full purchase history if a health question ever comes up.
Can I buy online instead?+
Yes. shop.ppwpet.com carries the range. The stores are still there for the part a website cannot do, which is most of what people actually come in for.
